The Hunt for Playstation Vita Games, Part 4 (Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth, Ys Memories of Celceta, Ragnarok Odyssey ACE, God of War Collection, The Walking Dead)

Some time ago, I picked up a few Playstation Vita games. I got God of War Collection, The Walking Dead Season Two, Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1, Ys: Memories of Celceta, and Ragnarok Odyssey ACE (Launch Edition).

God of War The Walking Dead Season 2 PS Vita

Hyper Dimension Neptunia Rebirth 1 and Ys Memories of Celceta

Ragnarok Odyssey Ace Launch Edtion

When God of War Collection was first released, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to get it. However, when I found this on sale at Walmart for $15, I decided to buy it for that price. This God of War Collection has God of War 1 and 2, which were originally released for the Playstation 2. I have played both games on the PS2 and loved them.

The Walking Dead Season Two is a game my friend got for me. He found several copies of the game on clearance at a store. So he decided to buy a copy of the game for himself and also bought some for his friends, including me. I played the first season of The Walking Dead on my Xbox 360, and I really enjoyed it. But I also ran into a few big technical problems. This time I’m hoping that I don’t run into the same problems with this Playstation Vita version of The Walking Dead Season Two.

If you haven’t read about the technical problems I came across while playing Season One of The Walking Dead on my Xbox 360 and you are interested into reading about them, you can check out my “Halloween Gaming #2” blog post.

I bought the next three games from Amazon. First, Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth is a remake of the first Hyperdimension Neptunia game, an RPG that was originally released on the PS3. I can’t wait to play this game. I believe Re;Birth 2 and 3 have also been released, so I’ll be getting those two games soon.

I’m also really excited to play Ys: Memories of Celceta. I’ve heard one of my friends, who owns over 40 Playstation Vita games, say that this game is probably his favorite Vita game. The only Ys game I’ve played is the wii virtual console version of Ys Book I and II, which I really enjoyed. I know there have been a few Ys games released for the PSP, and if I like playing Ys: Memories of Celceta, then I’ll probably go buy some of the PSP Ys games.

The final game is Ragnarok Odyssey ACE. When I bought this from Amazon I only expected to get the standard edition of the game. Instead they sent me this Launch Edition, which comes with a soundtrack CD. This was a really cool surprise. Of course, if I had read the listing properly in the first place, I would have known that they were going to send me this Launch Edition (haha!).

My Christmas Swag (Bravely Default, Battlefield 4, Bound By Flame, etc…)

I hope everybody had a great Christmas! Today, I’ll be showing the videogame and DVD stuff that I got for Christmas.

Before I get to that, I have a quick Christmas Eve shopping story. A few days ago, on Christmas Eve, I was going over the presents that I had bought for my family and friends. It was then that I realized that I still had to buy two more presents. I was supposed to buy these two presents weeks ago, but I totally forgot.

So on Christmas Eve, I got into my car and drove to a Meijer store, which was a store that I knew would be open on this day. When I got to the store, it was about 6:36 pm. I entered the store and a nice gentleman greeted me at the entrance. He then told me that everyone in the store had to be in line at the cash registers at 6:45 pm. That gave me less than ten minutes to find stuff and get in line.

Luckily I was able to find the stuff I was looking for in a short amount of time and I was able to make it to the line at the cash registers by 6:45 pm. While I was in the line, I heard one of the managers telling the customers (who were still walking around looking for stuff) that all the registers will close at 7:00 pm.

Man, I feel sorry for the people who didn’t make it to the registers in time, but luckily I was able to buy my final two Christmas gifts.

Okay, now onto the stuff I got for Christmas. Again, I’m only showing the videogame and DVD stuff.

First off, as I mentioned in a previous blog post, my brother got me a 16 GB memory card for my Playstation Vita. It’s the second 16 GB card that I have. With this new card, I can finally download Need For Speed: Most Wanted that I got for free. I will probably also download my copy of Final Fantasy X-2 onto this card. I plan on buying Suikoden II from PSN someday, so I’ll download it onto this card as well (and I will also download it to my PS3).

PS Vita 16 GB Memory Card

I have been playing Valhalla Knights (a digital PSP game) on my PS Vita. The game looks good and runs smoothly. I can see myself buying a few more PSP games for my PS Vita, depending on the amount of space I have left on the new memory card.

Next up, I got Bravely Default for the 3DS. This is a game that I specifically asked for. This is an RPG from Square Enix and I have heard mostly positive things about it. I have also heard that the second half of the game isn’t as good as the first half, but we’ll see…

Bravely Default

I also got Bound By Flame and Battlefield 4 for the PS3. These two games are also games I asked for… well, sort of. I basically gave my family members and friends a list of games I wanted to get and they choose these two games from that list.

Bound By Flame PS3 Battlefield 4 PS3

Bound By Flame is an RPG developed by Spiders, who also developed RPGs like Mars: War Logs and Faery: Legends of Avalon. Bound By Flame got mixed reviews but some of my gamer friends who have the game say that they like it.

Battlefield 4 had a lot of major bugs and glitches when it was originally released in October 2013. I really enjoyed playing Battlefield 3 and also the two Bad Company games, so I am looking forward to playing Battlefield 4. Hopefully by now all the bugs have been fixed via patches.

Finally, I used the gift cards that I got at Best Buy and got two DVD sets. I got The Blacklist: The Complete First Season and The Following: The Complete Second Season.

The Blacklist Season 1 DVD, The Following Season 2 DVD

I have watched the first episode of The Blacklist and loved it, so I can’t wait to get into Season 1. I am currently watching Season 1 of the Following on DVD, and am loving it so far.

Alright, to everyone out there, Happy New Year! Hope you have a great 2015!

The Hunt for Playstation Vita Games, Part 3 (Soul Sacrifice, Tearaway, Rayman Legends, Unit 13, etc…)

A few days ago I talked to my brother and he asked me what I wanted him to get me for Christmas. I told me that I wanted a memory card for my Playstation Vita that was either 16 GB or 32 GB. He said he would get me the 16 GB one.

Currently the 16 GB memory card that I have right now is pretty much filled up. Earlier this month EA gave away some games during one weekend, including Need For Speed: Most Wanted for the PS Vita. I got it (it’s on my download list) but I didn’t have enough space on my current 16 GB memory card to download it.

Well, with this new 16 GB memory card that my brother is getting for me, I can now download Need For Speed: Most Wanted. I can also buy and download some other games, including some PS1 RPGs like Breath of Fire IV, Xenogears, and the newly released Suikoden II.

However, once this new 16 GB memory card fills up, I’m not planning on buying any more downloadable games. I don’t see myself buying another memory card for my PS Vita, unless Sony significantly drops the price of the memory cards.

Anyway, last time I talked about shopping at a Best Buy. Well, this time I headed to yet another Best Buy store. Unlike last time, there was nothing too memorable that happened here, but they had a lot of Xbox One System bundles, stacked on top of each other. They mostly had the Assassin’s Creed Unity/Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag bundles, but they also had a few Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare bundles.

The bundles were $350 each, and at that price, it was quite tempting to get one of these bundles. But ultimately I decided to hold off on buying one of these systems. I’ll just enjoy playing my Playstation Vita (and my other videogame systems) for now…

Speaking of the PS Vita, I was able to find a couple of games for it that I wanted. And I got most of them for cheap prices as well. I ended up buying six Vita games.

Soul Sacrifice, Rayman Legends, Tearaway, Unit 13, Modnation Racers, Wipeout 2048

Out of these six games, Soul Sacrifice is the only one that I paid the full retail price for, which is $30. Soul Sacrifice is another game that I didn’t think I would get this soon, but again, since I was always going to get this game anyway, I decided to get it now. And since I think this game is pretty niche, there’s a good chance that this game will not see a significant price drop before becoming very hard to find.

For $15, I picked up Rayman Legends. This game is also available for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii-U, and I always thought that I would buy this game for my PS3 or Xbox 360 (I don’t have a Wii-U), but one of my friends has been raving this Playstation Vita version, saying that it is just as good as the home console versions. So for $15, I couldn’t resist getting this game for my Vita.

Also for $15 I picked up Tearaway. To be honest, this game is not a game that I thought I would be getting, at least not for its full retail price of $30. I know that this game got universally praised by the critics but from reading reviews of the game it did not sound like this game would be my cup of tea. The game was developed by Media Molecule, who also developed Little Big Planet 1 and 2 for the PS3. While I enjoyed playing both LBP games, I didn’t like them that much. But since Tearaway was only $15, I decided to take a chance on it.

For $9.99, I got Unit 13, which is the last game Zipper Interactive (the makers of the SOCOM games) developed before they got closed down. I have seen some gameplay footage of this game, and it looked like a game that I would really enjoy playing. So when I saw Unit 13 for only $10 I knew I had to get it.

Also for $9.99, I picked up Modnation Racers: Road Trip. I actually didn’t know that there was a Modnation Racers game for the PS Vita. But for only $10, I’ll try it out and hopefully it ends up being fun to play.

Finally, I got Wipeout 2048, which was $9.99 as well. Again, I didn’t know that there was a Wipeout game for the PS Vita. I haven’t played a Wipeout game since playing Wipeout 3 for the original Playstation a long time ago. For the most part, the Wipeout games have been known to be high quality games, so hopefully Wipeout 2048 is no different.

Man, to be honest, I didn’t think that I would be able to get a lot of Vita games for $10 or $15 a piece. Maybe that speaks to the sad state that the Vita is currently in. Oh well, I am glad that I was able to get this games for these cheap prices.

The Hunt for Playstation Vita Games, Part 2 (Also helped two people find some videogames and I picked up Tales of Xillia 2)

In Part 1 of my hunt for Playstation Vita games, I mentioned that I bought a couple of PS Vita games from Walmart and Best Buy. Well, a few days later I headed to another Best Buy store. I found some more PS Vita games, and I also bought one PS3 game and one Xbox 360 game. But that wasn’t the most memorable thing that happened.

The most memorable thing that happened is I ended up helping a couple of women find videogames for their child. Or at least I tried to…

I was in the videogame section of Best Buy, looking for Playstation Vita games. Two women were close by and I overheard them say that they were looking for the PS3 version of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare for their kid as a Christmas gift. I would later learn that one of them is the grandmother of the child and the other is the aunt.

After a few minutes they couldn’t find the game, so I went up to them and asked them if they needed help finding Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare for the PS3. This game is, of course, the latest Call of Duty game.

They both said yes.

So I took them over to the PS3 games section and quickly found a copy of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. When they heard me tell them that the game was $60, they were shocked and said that it was too much for one game.

One of the women saw that Call of Duty: Ghosts was on sale (it was on sale for either $20 or $30, I don’t remember exactly) and thought that this was a different version of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. She wanted to buy it. But I told her that Call of Duty: Ghosts was last year’s Call of Duty game, and she said that her kid might already have the game, so she didn’t buy it.

Anyway, a few minutes later, both of them walked up to me and asked me if I could help them find a copy of Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection for the PS3. I told them that I would be glad to help them find it. I also said that I myself had a copy of the game for my PS3 and I really enjoyed playing it.

However, we looked everywhere but could not find this game. We looked in the PS3 games section. We looked in the Value Games (the $20 and under) section. We even looked in the used games section. We came up empty.

The final game they asked for my help in finding was Pokemon Omega Ruby or Pokemon Alpha Sapphire for the Nintendo 3DS. These two games are the latest Pokemon games. I thought for sure that we would be able to find at least one of these games, because Best Buy (along with other stores) usually have a lot of the latest Pokemon games in stock. So I took them over to the 3DS games section.

To my surprise we couldn’t find either game! They had copies of last year’s Pokemon games, Pokemon X and Y, but not Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. I guess they sold out, because when the women asked a few of the employees there to help them find these Pokemon games, they also couldn’t find them! They couldn’t find a copy Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection either!

I told the two women that if they couldn’t find these Pokemon games here, they would most likely find them at stores like Walmart, Target, and Meijer.

But all was not lost. When I got all the games that I was going to buy and walked up to the cashier section, I noticed that there was a bin of “$20 and under” games next to the cashiers. I looked in there, and lo and behold, they had a few copies of Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection for the PS3 for $20. It was in the red Greatest Hits case, but I’m sure these women didn’t mind that.

I really wanted to help these women get at least one game for their kid, so I grabbed a copy of Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection, left the line at the cashiers, and walked back to the videogame section to hand them the game.

The two women thanked me of course. They and one of the lady employees asked me where I found the game and I told them it was in the bargain bin next to the cashier. They were kind of surprised that I would walk all the way back here to hand them the game, but for me, it was worth it just to help them get at least one game for their kid.

I hope they have a great Christmas and that their kid enjoys his videogame(s)!

Okay, so what did I pick up for myself? Well, I ended up buying five games from this Best Buy store. I got three Playstation Vita games, one PS3 game, and one Xbox 360 game.

Tales of Xilla II, Gears of War 3, Assassin's Creed III Liberation, Gravity Rush, Playstation All-Stars

For my PS Vita, I got Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation, Gravity Rush, and Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale. Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation and Gravity Rush were on sale for $15 each, while Playstation All Stars Battle Royale was only $9.99 I’m so glad I got these games for those prices!

I never thought I would find Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation for under $20. Amazon has had this game be on sale before, and it usually is on sale for just over $20. So to find a brand new copy for $15 was amazing! I did hear that this game had some serious bugs but I think the patches fixed them.

Gravity Rush was not a game that I was looking to get. I know that this game got great reviews across the board but from what I read about the game, it doesn’t appear to be my cup of tea. However, for $15, I’ll give it a shot (most places still sell this game for around $30). If I end up liking it (or even loving it), then that’s awesome.

Just like Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, which I talked about in my last blog post, the PS3 version of Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale also comes with a free downloadable code for the PS Vita version. But I don’t think that I currently have enough space on any of my memory cards to download it (and I really don’t want to delete anything). So for $9.99, I couldn’t resist getting a physical copy of the PS Vita version of the game.

I also saw Tales of Xillia 2 for the PS3 on sale for $19.99, which is half off its regular $40 price tag. Man, again, I never thought that I was going to find a brand new copy of this game for $20. As a JRPG fan, I had to pick this up.

Lastly I bought Gears of War 3 for the Xbox 360 for $19.99 I really enjoyed playing the first Gears of War game and I liked the second game even more, especially the Horde Mode. So it was a no brainer for me to get Gears of War 3.

Now I did want to get another person’s thoughts on Gears of War 3. I was hoping to find someone at that Best Buy store who played all three Gears of War games (and also Gears of War Judgment). I wanted to ask this person if he/she enjoyed Gears of War 3 as much (or more than) the first two games.

So I asked the Best Buy employee at the videogame section if he played the Gears of War games. Well, unfortunately he hadn’t. Oh well. But that’s not all, he told me that he wasn’t a gamer at all and that his brother is the one who plays videogames. At first I thought it was strange that Best Buy had someone working in the videogame section who didn’t play videogames, but perhaps they just couldn’t find someone like that to work there.

The Hunt for Playstation Vita Games, Part 1 (I also picked up Disney Infinity and Lightning Returns Final Fantasy XIII)

Before I got my Playstation Vita system, for the longest time, there were only three PS Vita games that were must haves for me. Those three games are Uncharted: Golden Abyss, Persona 4: Golden, and Killzone: Mercenary. One of these games, Persona 4, has already been on the PS2.

After I got my Playstation Vita system, which I talked about in my “Videogame Shopping Trip Report #25” blog post, I decided to look up and do more research on PS Vita games. I found some games that I wanted to get, and then there were some games that I would only get if I found them for cheap prices.

With that done, I headed out to the local stores, looking for Playstation Vita games!

The first place I stopped at was Walmart. Before looking for Playstation Vita games, I saw that they had Disney Infinity Starter Pack for the PS3 in stock, and I had wanted to get this item as a Christmas gift for my cousin’s kids, since they are huge fans of Disney. Yes, I know that this is last year’s version and there is a newer Disney Infinity 2.0 that was released this year, but since my cousin’s kids did not have the first Disney Infinity, I figure I’d get them this one first.

Disney Infinity Starter Pack PS3

As for Playstation Vita games, this Walmart didn’t have very many titles in stock, but they did have a copy of Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster. This was the only store in my area (besides Gamestop) that has a copy of this game, but the game has the full retail price of $40. Yeah, I know I could have gotten this game cheaper at Amazon or Gamestop, but I didn’t feel like ordering it online and I’m not a huge fan of Gamestop, as many of you who have been reading my blog know. So I bought this game at this Walmart.

For those who don’t know, while the PS3 version of Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster has both Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 on the disc, the PS Vita version only has Final Fantasy X HD on the game card. You are given a code to download Final Fantasy X-2 HD from PSN. Which means that you also need a memory card with enough space to download the game, which is over 3 GB. This sucks but I do have a 4 GB memory card with nothing on it, so hopefully this download fits on it.

Anyway, I also saw that this Walmart had a copy of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII for PS3 for $20, so I decided to get it. This game is the third game in the Final Fantasy XIII series. I’m not the biggest fan of the Final Fantasy XIII games, but I do like them, so I’m eager to see how the series ends (I think this is the last game in the FF XIII series).

Next I headed to a Best Buy store and I got two more Vita games here: Freedom Wars and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time.

I think Freedom Wars was $29.99, and it’s been unofficially touted as the Vita’s last AAA game (although I’m not completely sure if people consider this game to be a AAA game). I didn’t expect to get this game this soon, but I figured since I was going to get this game anyway, I might as well pick it up now.

I already have the PS3 version of Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time and I believe that it comes with a downloadable version of the Vita version of the game. However, when I saw a physical copy of the Vita version for only $9.99, I couldn’t resist. I’ll probably trade or give my downloadable version to a family member or friend.

I also saw SSX for the PS3 on clearance for $11 and decided to get it. This is a game I’ve wanted to get for a while now, and there were several times that I almost bought it when I saw it for $19.99 at other stores. I’m glad I waited.

And finally, I decided to pick up a copy of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D for the 3DS. The game was at full retail price of $39.99, but I decided to get it in case Nintendo decides to stop production of the game and it becomes really hard to find. I also want to get Bravely Default and Fire Emblem: Awakening soon, for the same reasons.

Below is a picture of the six games I got from Walmart and Best Buy.

Lightning Returns FF 13, SSX, Zelda Ocarina of Time, Final Fantasy X X-2 HD Remaster, Freedom Wars, Sly Cooper Thieves in Time

Movies I Watched Recently #20: The Matrix Reloaded (2003)

The Matrix Collection DVD

The Matrix Reloaded DVD

The Matrix (1999) is a really cool movie. Therefore, I was extremely hyped for its sequel, The Matrix Reloaded (2003).

And The Matrix Reloaded didn’t disappoint me at all. In fact, it exceeded my expectations. This movie blew me away!

The first movie has the better story, but story in the second film is good too. At the beginning of the film there was this ominous feeling that something bad would happen to one of the main characters, which keep me engaged in the story.

However, if you’re talking about action scenes, there’s no contest. The second movie has the better action scenes. My goodness, the action scenes in The Matrix Reloaded are just simply amazing!!!

The first time I watched this movie, I remember saying “Wow” or “That was awesome!” after each action scene. From the first action scene with Neo (Keanu Reeves), I knew I was in for an action movie thrill ride.

I love that in this movie Neo is fighting multiple enemies at once. I love that there is more of an emphasis of martial arts type fighting in this film (the first film had more gun battles).

Morpheus (Lawrence Fishburne) and Trinity (Carrie-Ann Moss) do some awesome fighting and shooting in this movie as well. I love Morpheus’ sword and gun combo.

And man, the freeway chase scene in this movie is perhaps my favorite action scene of all time! It had my on the edge of my seat, glued to the television screen! This scene is just so awesome!

If you’re fan of action movies and you have not seen The Matrix Reloaded yet, you definitely have to watch this movie! I can not recommend it enough.

Movies I Watched Recently #19: The Matrix (1999)

Recently I was at a Best Buy store and saw that they had this The Matrix Collection DVD set on sale for $6.99 This set comes with The Matrix, The Matrix Reloaded, The Matrix Revolutions, and Animatrix. I thought that $6.99 was a pretty good price for this DVD set, so I decided to buy it.

I was expecting to find only two discs in this DVD set, with two movies on one disc, but when I got home and opened it, lo and behold, I found four discs stacked on each other, so each movie on its own disc. I thought that was pretty cool. I’d rather have it like this anyway.

The Matrix Collection DVD

The Matrix DVD

The Matrix Reloaded DVD

The Matrix Revolutions DVD

The first movie that I watched from this set is, of course, the first film in the franchise, The Matrix, originally released in 1999.

I love The Matrix and I love the second film, The Matrix Reloaded, even more. I have watched both films multiple times in the past (I think I watched both films more than 6 times each). However I was extremely disappointed with the third film, The Matrix Revolutions. I thought it was a pretty good movie, but I also thought that it would be better than the second film, and it was not.

I have not seen Animatrix. For those who don’t know, Animatrix is a compilation of nine animated shorts, with four of them directed by the Wachowskis, the directors of the three Matrix films. I believe a lot of the animation (if not all of the animation) were handled by animators in Japan.

When first film in the series, The Matrix, was first released on DVD, it was at a time when DVD was cutting edge technology. If you had a DVD player back then, The Matrix was the movie to show off your DVD player.

The first time I watched The Matrix, I was really immersed in the film’s story and universe. Prior to the film’s release, I remember watching commercials for it and Lawrence Fishburne would say “Unfortunately, no one can be told what the Matrix is. You have to see it for yourself.” So as I was watching the movie, I was eager to see how the story unfolded and was interested to find out what would happen next.

At that time I thought that The Matrix was highly original film. After reading up the movie, apparently there were several things that influenced the movie, including Plato’s Allegory of the Cave and Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, along with anime and martial arts films. Still, I really like the concepts and story ideas that were in The Matrix.

I love the look and feel of the sets and environments when the characters were in the “modern day” city. The rooftops, the inside of the old buildings, the streets, etc… all looked cool.

I also like the now iconic look of the characters themselves – the black outfits and sunglasses.

The action scenes are really cool and highly stylish. My favorite action scene is the one in the lobby near the end of the film. Oh man, that was so cool!

Next I will watch The Matrix Reloaded.
